Science

I can find and combine information about ways communities use science ideas to protect the Earth's resources and environment.

Our current goals:

Character/Work Ethic

I can

Literacy

I can analyze texts on the same event or topic, and compare and contrast the similarities and differences of their points of view (perspective).

I can write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and I can write my ideas and information clearly.

Our 5th Grade Classroom

Our classroom rocks!

We are working on a lot of different thing in our classroom right now. Below you will find more details for each subject area:

Reading: We are working on several different things in literacy right now. We are studying point of view and perspective to better understand who is telling the story, what experiences shape the telling of the story, and how the story would be different if told from another point of view.

Writing: In writing, we are beginning short explanatory/informative texts. Students are brainstorming informational or how-to topics to explore with more research in order to begin writing.

Word Work: Our work has been focused on prefix and suffix rules. For example, students are indentifying and applying rules for the -ed ending in order to better understand how to apply the rule to new and unfamiliar words. They are also using these rules to apply to their own proofreading.

Science: In science we are studying how humans impact the Earth's resources and environment. We will discuss and defend practices that may hurt the environment, but may be deemed "necessary," and what that means for our world. We will also talk about overusing resources, and the affects of acid rain on our planet.
